The City of Carrollton Fire Department serves the Citizens of Carrollton, the Students of the State University of West Georgia and a surrounding portion of Carroll County. The Department operates with a staff of 50 Personnel, 3 Fire Stations, 3 Fire Engines, a 90 Foot Aerial Platform Truck and a Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team.

All Members of the Department are State Certified Firefighters, Medical First Responders, EMT or Paramedic and have specialized training in Hazardous Materials Response. The Department responded to 3,655 calls last year of which include: fires, chemical spills, gas ruptures, severe weather, flooding, rescue, extrication, bomb threats, medical calls, auto accidents, machinery accidents, fire alarms, carbon monoxide problems and a variety of other emergency situations.

Functions of the Fire Department

Fire Suppression The Carrollton Fire Department has three well trained and equipped shifts that aggressively fight and extinguish fires using the most effective and efficient methods. Responses range from a full response down to a single engine response, dependant upon the type of incident. A full company response to an incident would include: the Chief, Captain, 2 Engine Crews, a Ladder Crew and the Safety Officer.

(12 to 15 Personnel) A single engine run would include the Captain on duty and one engine company. (4 or 5 Personnel) Several extinguishing agents are carried on each apparatus including water, foam and fuel treatment products to fight different type fires.

Medical Response All members of the department are trained to be certified medical first responders, EMT or Paramedics. Our Department offers a first responder program to assist the Citizens of Carrollton with Medical Emergencies. We are equipped and trained to perform most emergency medical pre hospital procedures in the field. This service provides the citizens with a very quick and professional response to their medical emergencies at a minimal cost.

HAZ/MAT The West Georgia Regional HAZ/MAT Team was established in 1995 to assist the Fire Departments of Carrollton, Bremen, Carroll County, Haralson County, Heard County, Tallapoosa and the City of Newnan. The Apparatus and equipment is some of the best on the market and is based at Carrollton’s Fire Station #21. The team provides mitigation of incidents involving hazardous materials including, fuels, chemicals, radiological materials, biological agents and weapons of mass destruction.

The mission of our emergency response team is not for clean up, removal or storage of hazardous materials, but rather to restore a stable environment, care for the injured, protect life, property and the environment.

The team consists of members from each of the Fire Departments listed above, which provides approximately 150 personnel for the team. The team is equipped with a tractor drawn trailer including a command module, level A HAZ/MAT Entry Suits, Tools, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, Monitoring/metering equipment, decontamination equipment, power generator, light tower, computer equipment, chemical library and communications equipment.

The response team is capable of detection and identification of chemicals including solids, liquids, gases, biological, radiological, nerve gases, mustard gases and blistering agents.
