Carrollton
is consistently recognized for its quality of life. Careful planning,
recreational opportunities, and access to the
cultural diversity, educational opportunities, and
medical facilities within the community and the
Metro area contribute to the City’s livability. The
citizens of
Carrollton expect quality
recreational programs, safe streets, attractive
neighborhoods, clean water, regular trash pick up,
and prompt emergency services. They participate on
City boards and commissions that help shape the
direction of City government.
The elected
government consists of a Mayor and four Council
members and serves as the legislative branch for the
City of
Carrollton . The Mayor and Council
are responsible for adopting a budget and
establishing policies and ordinances. Mayor and
Council meetings are held the first
Monday of the month at
6:00 p.m. in the City Public Safety
Complex, 115 West Center
Street.
They are open to the public.
The citizens of
Carrollton elect the Mayor at large.
The Council names one of its members as Mayor Pro
Tem to preside over Council meetings and otherwise
substitute in the Mayor's absence. The four
Council members are Ward representatives who are
chosen from voters within the Ward. Elections are
held in odd-numbered years. Terms are staggered so
that voters fill two or three of the seats every two
years.
The City of
Carrollton uses the Council-Manager
form of government based on State law. The elected
Mayor and Council hire the Manager and City
Attorney. The Manager is responsible for hiring and
overseeing other City employees, who currently total
291 in about a half dozen departments. |
